(If this is in the wrong topic please change.)

Does anyone collect or accumulate Casino Rounds? You know, those 1oz coin-like .999% silver tokens.

    Take Care and Merry Christmas

I only have one that I got a long time ago, I got it becasue the seller didn't realize that it was an ounce of silver.
Paid about $4 for it at the time.
    Still, a nice piece.

Now, you have to really "seek" to find more silver gaming tokens...

I would say I have about 50. Mostly from Las Vegas and a few others from Reno, Laughlin and Biloxi.

I have several silver round and gaming tokens, mostly from the Desert Inn in Vegas. The DI was was dads favorite casino and he took my wife and I there several times. Unfortunatly My dad and the DI are both gone now, but I have the tokens as great memories. If I remember I will post some pics.

I have several casino tokens [not silver] from a trip to Vegas in the early 80s. I never considered them to be collectibles, just souveniers.

I use to collect these and sold them all off. People who colect them are called "silver strikers". What I found is you can buy the common ones on EBAy cheaper than playing for them (I found $14 on Ebay vs. $17 on average to play for them.) They can get pricey for some of the rarer ones. They come in various denominations with $10 and $20 the most common. Also have $200 varieties also. There are error ones, misstrikes..etc just like coins out there. Very under valued for amount made. Print runs very low on most designs. Books out on them and collector societies and clubs. But the old supply - demand thing. Here is a link for those interested.

Living here for the last 7-years I have amasted quite a collection, probably greater than 100 with at least 60 different, Some are really nice pieces. While there is virtually no value above the $10 face or melt value they are still fun to collect, as long as you know when to leave a cold machine. My wife has a real knack for winning these, once at the Venetian on $10 she won 6 different.

    "SILVER STRIKES"

I am the author of the first Silver Strike Price Guide. (A memory now)

I started collecting them back in 1992 when they first arrived. I just went through all of my duplicated and have well over 600 that are not part of my collection.

For some info they DO NOT contain 1oz silver the $10 tokens are silver inserts around brass rings and the silver weight is just about .6 troy oz... The $7 strikes contain about 7.5 troy oz and the $20 strikes are a silver outer ring with a brass gold plated insert. The $28, $40 & $200 Silver Strikes are all solid silver tokens.

    Howdy,

I've amassed quite a few $1 slot tokens from various casinos in Vegas, Laughlin and many, many reservation casinos (I live in Michigan and we've got over a dozen). I've probably got 100 or so in 2x2's in a binder.

I take my dupes back to vegas and put them in machines.

I've also got several 'silver' tokens, but these came out of slot machines in vegas for certain 'wins'. These I consider the whip cream on top of my token collection.

er, it helps to be a gambler.

    peace,

    rono

If you wish to collect brothel tokens, you should pick up the "Cathouse Connection" - A guide for Brothel Collectibles, 2nd edition, copyright 2003, by David R. Whalen.

Legitimate brothel chips fall into one of three categories: (1) Current brothel chips that are in use by operating brothels, (2) Obsolete brothel chips which have been used by establishments that are no longer open and (3) Closed brothel commemoratives produced to recognize the contribution made by the brothels to a colorful part of Nevada history. There is also a Nevada Brothel directory on the internet; nvbrothels.net/directory.htm and current chips are available at most of the brothels. Other websites that offer brothel chips are dice702.com, tinytreasures.com, oldvegaschips.com and cathousechips.com.

There is much additional info and background in the book, but I feel it is not appropriate for this site.
