The only coin magazine I currently get is the ANA's for members. What other ones would you recommend?

For what it's worth, I'm not interested in one that is 50% advertisements for three low grade large cents for "only $59.95."

most coin-related magazines these days are more ads than magazine, unfortunately

Like "noodle" said, most magazines need the ads to remain cost-effective. Although, I no longer subscribe to any of the mags because of my fixed income retirement status, I did subscribe for many years to Coin World, Numismatic News and CoinAge. Of these, I liked Coin World the best. Both CW and NN are weekly issues printed on newspaper rag and have the advantage of reporting current events more efficiently than the monthly issues. CoinAge is printed on the same quality paper as the Numismatist and is issued monthly.

For many years, I subscribed to Coins magazine but they kept shrinking the amount of content until it wasn't worth it to me to continue my subscription. I've also subscribed to the weekly Numismatic News in the past although I do not currently. Today, in addition to the Numismatist that I get as an ANA member, I only subscribe to Coin World monthly magazine. It covers the latest news on both US and foreign, coinage and paper money, but it also includes a full monthly price guide which I find useful for reference.

If your local/county library has a selection of numismags, browse for free, see what appeals to you - likewise, Barnes & Noble has a good selection of monthly hobby magazines for sale - customers are free to sit and read before buying

I also subscribed to CW and NN for years. Like Chris, I preferred CW over NN, but there wasn't that much of a difference.

I would like to put a plug in for e-sylem. It is a weekly electronic newsletter from the Numismatic Bibliomania Society. It's free and you don't have to be a member to get it. There's some amazing information that Wayne puts out. Google the NBS and sign up (Disclaimer, sort of, I am not a member of the NBS, I just like the newsletter)

I’ve subscribed to Coins magazine since 2007 and I too have noticed the amount of content has gradually decreased. This year they put in non coin-related ads for the first time, and I must admit that it hurt a little when I saw an ad for male-oriented supplements appear in my beloved coin magazine.

NN started doing the same recently. I don't like it either.

Is there a decent and reliable website that you guys recommend regarding recent retail coin prices? I am currently updating my stuff. Thanks

The Numismatist is kinda weird - they have a strange mix of extremely esoteric articles (submitted by ANA members who are following their passions, but it doesn't make for great generalist reading) and extremely basic information geared towards beginners. The magazine looks great, but there's only maybe one or two articles each month that are actually interesting to me.

CoinWorld is going to be your best choice for a printed magazine. I think they have a weekly subscription and a monthly choice, but CW is pretty much the standard for coin periodicals.

If you wanted to go the free/online route, CoinWeek.com has a lot of really good stuff. It's not so much a "periodical" as a coin news site, and it may not be as deep or as broad as CoinWorld, but it is generally high quality.

I love the numismatic news letters, they can be pretty humorous.
