    Hi,
Has anyone used any coin collecting software? My collection is getting hard to keep track of and I'm buying duplicates.

An excel spreadsheet always works well.
Create a separate sheet for each coin series you're collecting then have rows for Date of coin, date purchased, coin condition, and purchase amount.

Also if you do not have microsoft office on your computer you can use Google Sheets. it's the same thing as excel more or less and you can use it on your browser for free.

Agree, it's hard to beat Excel or a compatible unless you have thousands of coins, then a database program may be better. There is plenty of on-line help for Excel. Have separate columns for denomination, grade, mint, date, etc. Using the sort feature can ferret-out duplicates, but there are other ways as well. You can incorporate pictures as well, but if they are high-res, the size of the file gets huge.

For Mac, I use a program called U.S. Coins. Very easy interface and you can put in your own pictures. Readily converts data into Excel sheets.

I bought CoinManage for around $40. It's nice because it comes preloaded with PCGS values so if you want to know your "approximate" value at a glance (say, for insurance purposes or whatnot), this is an easier way.

Otherwise, you'd have to manually find the value of each coin and input into your spreadsheet, which would take quite a bit of time, although it would give you more time to spend enjoying your coins :)

Not too impressed with the specialty software I've seen. I realize this is a niche market. I'm using Excel with different tabs for say Morgan dollars, graded Morgan dollars, 8 Reales, etc. Slowly converting to Access but it's a slow process.

Really all you have to do is google, "coin collecting spreadsheets" and you will have a ton of options. Find the one that you like the most and use it.

I use the tried and true method of excel spreadsheets and a couple apps on my iphone
[RRBIsilvercalculator it lets me put in amount of junk silver like 100 dimes 50 halfs] they don't let you get to specific but it helps me keep a tally.
    the other is
    AgCalc
this one lets me see the current melt price...I can type in 10 in the dime field and it tells me the cost of the number of coins I want to buy...**Without the markup of course**
Excel lets me put in a lot of information about each coin and I create two columns for melt value and black book value for comparison

I just use an old Microsoft Works program...works great...and you can customize the columns as little or as much as you desire.

Another vote for Excel or similar. A custom app might be nice, but I'm enough of an obsessive-compulsive geek that I just assume no application designer is going to arrange things exactly the way I want. Of course that personality type is probably rare among coin collectors ;)

I also use an Excel spreadsheet for tracking my collection. I have included the following columns/information: Coin Name, Year, Mint, Type, Condition, Num. Value, Silver Value (where applicable), Date acquired, Price Paid and Comments. That pretty much covers all the information I currently need at a glance. I also included a formula that totals the approximate Numismatic value and Silver values which change quite often

I use Access, learning to use it became another way to spend time with my collection without having to spend more money... :)

How about Heritage Auctions (ha.com)? You can go to their site and register, if you haven't already done so. Then look on the right side of the home page for My Heritage. Pull this down, and click on My Collection. This gives you another pull-down menu on which the second choice is Coins. Click on that and you'll get to a page on which you can begin listing your coins. It works well for U.S. coins, assigns values to the items you enter, and best of all, it's free.

Excel. Have Coin Elite, but find Excel more flexible. Also you can export into it. For example the World Coins I have at Numista.com can export into Excel nicely
