I found some bad feedback about this dealer, but it is 6 years old. They also sell on Ebay under CoastCoin. Anybody here had recent dealings with them? Thanks!
If it's the company out of Columbia Md. They operate out of a office in an industrial park. No retail store front, and advertising in coin world a lot on the inside first page. There prices are top of the mark and even though I live within 15 minutes of their location I never hear of any one in these parts dealing with them. So they are more mail order, where you buy a pig in a poke.
Paddy has it right. No walk-in store, so you cant see the coins in hand, even if you live nearby, because I visited them. Unfortunately, REAL coin dealers are becoming scarce. Most are just a couple of old guys behind a counter, scamming grandma with low ball offers, and quickly re-selling. Most are metal buyers, not collectors, and good luck getting even 25% of your sets value.
Thanks guys. The jury seems to be unanimous. I found their two-page ad in Coin World. Think going in the other direction might be a fine idea!
I did get several of their "Gem BU" Franklin halves. For the most part I got what I paid for, I did return one that I felt was not up to par and received a really nice one in exchange. I do think when they run one of their specials on a certain date it is because they are overstocked with coins that have issues.
In my experience their prices are usually high, but they do get some rarities where they can charge like that. Problem seems to be that most if not all is priced like a rarity
I have made some purchases from these folks on eBay and have never been disappointed with quality or price.
They have a table at the Whitman Baltimore show, you can check them out there. I've purchased a couple gold coins from them - some of their prices are on the high side, but you can work with them on some. My most recent purchase, a PCGS MS-64 CAC Indian QE was acquired at what I considered a very favorable price. 'dude
I've purchased Proof Eisenhower Dollars from Coast 2 Coast in the past. They have a no questions asked return policy and credit your account immediately upon receipt of the returned product. I have not had a problem with them at all. Come to think of it, I've also purchased 1971-D Eisenhowers from them. Again, no problems with returns.
The reason I inquired is because of some certified older proofs they have on their EBay site. Seem to be reasonably priced and they seem -- I said seem -- to have good buyer ratings. Too bad I'm about 1,700 miles from Baltimore. Don't think I've ever seen split opinions like these on a dealer.
Split because they have no store. So locals have no special access. They are primarily an internet seller.
I bought something from them on ebay in 2013. It was an auction for something that was cheap compared to their "premium" offerings. I'm not even sure what it was anymore....
More correctly "a Mail Order/Internet Seller" since I believe that they've been in business well before Internet Marketing and Internet Coin Stores became "the thing".
Mistake one...bought a BU 1935 Peace Dollar from them back in '94 or '95. Mistake two...sent it into PCI for grading, came back as AU-58.
