First let me dress in my flame-retardant clothing......there! I was digging through my coin collection box and found a set of Chucky Cheese tokens. I noticed that they had dates on them so I started sorting them for fun... Most were 1996 and newer, but then a 1992 appeared, then a 1983 and then 2 that were obviously older but had no date at all. Does anyone know anything about these things or where I could look to learn a little more about the undated ones? TIA!
Other than the fact that the tokens were issued for use in the arcade games at Chucky Cheese locations, there doesn't seem to be much on the internet about them. Like most exonumia, there are probably collectors, but locating them can be very difficult; and evaluating the items is even tougher.
mikeyfev1, Welcome to Coin Talk ! I hung onto a Chuck E. Cheese token for 20 years or so, and a couple years ago I threw it away. Since they're still in business ( Cheese ) , I assume they're still selling tokens and so are probably easy to collect. I haven't been to one since about 1980, when I took my stepson and little brother. (World's worst pizza, IIRC).
hmm, I've seen a pretty detailed website listing many of the different varieties of CC tokens, but I'm having difficulty finding it at the moment, I'll keep looking and get back to you.
I don't wanna look at that too closely. I'd hate to find out that the one I threw away is worth something.
I've looked at that site before. Sort of...staggering. The funnest thing about being an authority on the subject has to be being able to tell people that you are an authority on the subject. It's like having the world's biggest ball of twine in your front yard. I've got a few Chuck E. Cheese tokens, and similar ... junk?
I don't know much about them but every lot I get sells like mad. Sometimes I put groups of mixed game arcade tokens on ebay and I ALWAYS get emails asking if I can sell only the CEC. J. Paul Getty said something like "For everything there is a market". That may not be an exact quote. My dad said it best of all and this IS an exact quote, cept for the $$ signs. "There's an A$$ for every seat". That said, I'm happy there's buyers for CEC material. Otherwise my kids would be on overload all the time! Nick
Perhaps I shouldn't mention it, but I also have a modest CEC token collection, although all of them were acquired in pursuit of other tokens in the lots. One of my reference books does list and have id numbers for CEC tokens - "Video Arcade, Pinball, Slot Machine, and Other Amusement Tokens of North America" by Stephen Alpert and Kenneth Smith. Thanks for the link, I noted it in my book. BTW, the site has been updated since the post prior to mine in case anyone wants to see what's new with CEC tokens.
Hey cwt where ya been ? Thought you'd run off and left us Glad to see you haven't - we need somebody around here to answer the token questions
Same here....I been wondering where you had been but thought you might be out riding that big bike ;--) Speedy
Hi all, I've been working 90-100 hrs/week since May, so its been tough to even find time to read the mail, especially when the weather has been so nice this summer. I've been getting some riding in too Speedy, although the greatest portion of the 9000 or so miles have been back and forth to work (glad I don't have to drive the truck!). Only added one more bike to the collection this summer, but have my eye on a couple more. Need to clean the barn out first to make a little room.
