Hello - I am a new coin collector and was hoping to learn more about a coin I have. According to Coinoscope - it is "China dynastic Empire 1 (Xuantong)". It looks fairly new but I can't seem to find any info online about it.

    I appreciate any help as I learn ( :

    Welcome to Coin Talk.:)
Not too well versed on Asian coinage.
There are many members here that are though.
Maybe this site will help with identification of your coin.

    That is a good one.
As far as I can tell though, this coin is only a 1 year issue. At least that's all I could find.

Hmmm maybe that's why I can't find much about it.

That date converter is great. Am bookmarking it to help with Ids in the future.

With 91 million minted, I would say its value is nominal. Just an interesting piece of history.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

Holes in Chinese coins have a long history. As far back as 995 AD coins were strung on string to make them easier to carry. Since the value of the coin was based on the value of the metal, and the metal was bronze, it took a lot of coins to buy stuff. A thousand coins weighed more than seven pounds. It got worse when some parts of China made coins from iron.

The preceding information came from the book "Money: The True Story of a Made-up Thing" which I managed to get as an ebook from Amazon. Very good read.
