    Hello,

I have just found this strange looking Chinese coin, and I have my doubts about it. Is it real, or an imitation? Expert advice would be greatly appreciated.

See if it is attracted to a magnet.

I believe it is a fantasy coin. These are listed in a book on Chinese coins by Kahn. If no one replies further I'll look it up Monday.

Put "Chinese coin 1861-1908" on google and check out the images.

You can also look for "1861-1908 Commemorative Silver Dollar for The Empress Dowager Cixi".

Not an expert, but would be surprised if there is actually a "real" copy to begin with. Looks like a fantasy. The use of that type of dating on a Chinese coin is highly unusual.

There is no denomination on the coin, anywhere. It appears to be a tourist's medallion.

It looks like a coin that chinese fakers created, having no idea of what a real coin they are trying to fake looks like.

I have put a drop of bleach on coin it turned coin black ,which after rinsing left the coin in that area black . But it rubbed off to a shiny silver finish. I also tried the ice test and it left the coin cold and melted ice quickly . The metal stayed cold for quite a while afterwards . Which leads me to think this coin is silver . I will upload pictures when I can get on my computer . Thank you .
