I've seen this seller on eBay for years and I know they do basement slabbing. Their auctions seem a little fishy to me and I suspect there might be shill bidding going on. Any experiences from buyers of this seller, good or bad.

He has some basement slabs (self slabbed) that he covers the grade or just has an UNC/AU/etc designation on it per eBay rules. He also has many ICG slabs (when I looked today). The story was that he is a good grader (won a PCGS grading contest years ago) so I would not expect to find much undergraded inventory.

As far as shill bidding, it's possible or he might just have a lot of people watching his auctions since he has so many items and has been around for many years. I have bid before and everything seemed fine. I recall winning several inexpensive slabs. If you see an item you like, go ahead and bid. Wait until the end to lower the chances of being bid up. Alternatively, set your max and forget about (either you win at some number you are comfortable at or someone will outbid you).

At one time you could find some nice varieties in his listings. I don't think he took much time to research because of the quantity of listings. There once was a lot of talk about his images made the coin look much better than it was.

I have considered selling some on eBay but I’m leery. My friend’s grandfather’s coins, they want to sell. I know there are good people selling and buying but it’s just a chance one takes I guess.

What you need to be leery about is bringing your friend's coins to a Pawn Shop or a Coin Dealer, that's where people who don't know coins can get taken advantage of.

I normally ignore Centsles on eBay but there was one coin of his that I watched, 1843 Naples 120 Grana coin slabbed by ICG. There was a bidding war days before the end with bidders that had 100% bid history with Centsles auctions. One bidder with 2250 feedbacks and he's bump bidding like a rank newby, all his bid history is with Centsles and of course he bails out at the end. Sure smells like shill bidding to me.
