I live in Maryland, so Canadian coins are scarce here. I bought the Whitman folders for Canadian coins, and I have a friend who travels there buy coin rolls from time to time. I do not have any idea how to get penny rolls, or how to cash in the coins I do not save. Are there any U.S. banks that will take Canadian coins? Where are all the pennies, now that they are no longer in circulation? Advice please.

The Canada cent has not been used for 10? years now. I think you can still turn them in at a bank but they round to the nickel for cash transactions. As far a getting rid of coins you don't want. Ebay, Craigslist, or find someone who is headed to Canada. Don't throw them away, send them to me :)

OK, I've got one, but you'll have to pay postage.

I guess there are some things that the US can learn from Canada after all ;)

The OP might benefit from contacting Mike Dixon, in Frederick. And, Lester White, in Westminster, affiliated with the Carrol County Coin Club.
    Both individuals organize Shows.
Canadian numismatics is not as scarce as it seems. I myself will sell you Canada Red Book #1, for a Gazillion Dollars (U.S. Wampum, of course).

As a US'r living in Ontario since '97, it's tough to get rid of Canadian currency ... you have to go to a Federal reserve Bank, but they don't take coins. Kijiji, Craig's list or Facebook marketplace are about your only choices other than those above.

I had to go to Canada to unload my Canadian change. I couldn't find anywhere in the US, in my area, who wanted anything to do with it. So I saved it for my next trip there and just spent it. The last 3 or 4 times I went to Canada I didn't see a single cent circulating. They did a really good and thorough job of eliminating them. And yes, they do round to the nearest nickel. It works just fine. Their mint isn't tied tightly to their parliament, so they have far more leeway than the US Mint does in changing coinage. Eliminating the cent in the US would take an act of Congress. Some have tried, but, from what I heard, the bills go nowhere.

The bills to eliminate the penny have to do with who is on it. Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky lay claim to Abe Lincoln, and with those votes out, including others deep into the Civil War, there is no hope in eliminating Honest Abe.
