I was thinking about buying some unsearched wheat penny rolls online. Does anyone know of a trustworthy site that i can buy some from?
Absolutely, positively, 100% for sure no unsearched rolls? I would not go quite that far. On ebay most likely not. But at an estate sale in Vermont last year, I picked up 5 rolls of 1957D Lincoln cents, Des Moines bank wrapped for $1.00 each. All were beautiful choice B.U. coins, plenty of die cracks, chips and quite a few RPM's. There are collections all over that have not seen the light of day since folks salted these away and then one day, they pop up and you can get lucky. New varieties pop up on a regular basis and most of these were from estates where someone passed on and left them to the unknowing. These get deposited in banks or are sold outright at tag sales, estate sales, etc. where someone has no idea what their value is and they just dump them wherever it's convenient. Never lose hope.
OP asked for trustworthy sites. It is assumed he meant web sites. Yes, you got lucky, but I don't think he wants to play American Picker.
Yep, that's kind of why I mentioned my good luck. Not too much luck on ebay, trusted ones anyways in this area.
agree, IF you can find a collection that has been put away and IF that collector really wasn't a collector but just a hoarder and tossed everything into a jar, then MAYBE you can find some unsearched rolls. but those are a couple of BIG IF's and you won't find them very often. In all my years, I have only found that one time. Someone bought a storage locker and turned in 2 boxes of rolled pennies. They were all early 70's new never opened rolles. and even that example is not really what the op wants, which would be wheat cents. These were copper, but memorial cents.
The best thing to do honestly is to check the feedback of those who are selling "unsearched" cents... often times you will find comments left by buyers who actually did find some good dates. I have heard of people finding 1909-S wheats, Indians, and many other of the pre-1916 S-mint wheats in these lots... the key is to take some time and do some research on the sellers first before buying...

If you really want to have a little fun and search a roll, and you don't have any wheat cents, try searching a bunch of regular rolls you get at the bank of currently circulated cents. You will only find maybe one wheat per every 5 or 10 rolls but hey, it only cost you fifty cents for fifty cents. and you can still spend the fifty cents and if you find a wheat it only cost you one cent ($0.01) and you still get the fun of searching. You may also find other interesting coins. Kind of the best of both worlds without having to waste your money on eBay tripe. makes cents, makes sense.
What about those amazing mason jars with pennies silver and some gold coins found in grandma’s wall when remodling that the seller never opened or checked out.......JACKPOT....
Whether you should buy "unsearched" wheat rolls depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I bought a few such rolls on Ebay once but I knew that in all likelihood they were not truly unsearched. But I did trust that all of them would be wheats. It turned out just as I expected. the rolls were filled with common date wheats. But at the time I was trying to help my son start his own collection and buying a few such rolls was my way of helping him "jump start" it since his first effort was to try and fill a Lincoln Cent album. So I think the bottom line is if you see anything advertised as "unsearched wheats", the "wheats" part is probably true but the "unsearched" is not. So if you are looking for key dates only, don't bother. But if you are just looking to fill a bunch of empty album holes then go for it, just don't expect to find anything of more value than what you paid for the roll.
