I have the 2006 W and 2007 W Silver Eagles Burnished Uncirculated and to tell the truth, I do not see any difference between Burnished and Unburnished.
Seems to me that I read an article in Coin World some time ago that explained why. It's because they are all burnished.
Could someone post a picture of a burnished coin? I have seen this term regularly but I am not sure I have actually ever seen a burnished coin. Thanks.
Here's one from eBay: 2008-W BURNISHED $10 GOLD AMERICAN EAGLE PCGS MS70 - eBay (item 140349789512 end time Oct-09-09 21:00:22 PDT) I've had both burnished, and regular gold eagles, and I couldn't tell the difference.
You ever seen a Sacky or a President dollar ? Every single one of them is burnished. So are the ASE, AGE, APE and Buffalos.
The Mint made a big deal over the fact that the planchets for the collector version were "burnished", but they neglected to tell people that ALL planchets are burnished after they are annealed to clean them and remove the oxide layers that form on the during the heating. And as far as I can tell there is NO difference in the surface finish between the two. The only difference is one has a W and the other one doesn't even though they are both made at the same place.
