After the past few days, I have decided to build a display case which will hold my 20th Century Coin Set.

I bought a 11x14 shadow box, which I am covering the cork board with black fabric. I am then cutting cardboard coin holders and stapling them to the cover, which camouflager them with the fabric. Currently I am sizing everthing, making sure I can get a first and last on the board. I cam not figure out the best way to mount them but after trial and error, I should be able to figure it out soon.

    Pictures up after it dries.

Very interesting and nice work. I'm looking forward to seeing it all together! What do you mean by 20th century set? One coin of each type/design?

Also, if it doesn't work out, you could always consider something along these lines...

This is a picture of a 20th century type set holder. Only problem, is I am going to acquire the FIRST and LAST of every coin from 1900-1999. This is what I plan on collecting, other than super cheap coins I can find, or finishing my coin folders.

Yes, I am going to collect the first and last of every US coin.. I know this will take many many years, but I am just trying to figure out how to display them all.

I think making your own coin display case is a good idea. I've been wanting to build one myself. My collection is growing and I already have to get a new safe.

Yeah.........I posted it above. But it only lets me display one coin from each period. Im doing 2 coins per period. I will post what I mean in picture form.

Paint is drying. These are pennies.
These are the coins I will have. Remember, first and last.
    Cents
    Indian 1864-1909

    Lincoln 1909 V.D.B.

    Lincoln 1909-1958

    Lincoln 1943 steel

This is what I have so far. All will be put into place by gluing/Double Sided taping them to the board. They are just half of a cardboard holder, which will not hurt the coin, thus keeping it in whatever condition I get. All will have labels on them once they are placed into the board.

11x14 holder will have pennies-dollars, which will fit them all.

Finding and buying a holder is not fun for me. Im more of a DIY guy. This makes it have more meaning when it gets passed down to my children.

Finished fitting all the coin holders. I am going to end up with the first Ike dollar, with the bi-cent as the 2nd. Also, I am only using the first Susan B as there is not enough room. So far, everything fits, and I am super happy. Tomorrow I am going to start gluing everything down. This way the coins can sit in the holder, and have a piece of glass over the top to hold everything down.

Everything is glued, almost 90% complete. Just adding fill in paper between the sets. Looks pretty good so far. Right now, its got a piece of plexiglass which holds the coins great. Not sure it I will put glass in its place but just finishing up for tonight. Working on getting labels made after it all dries.

All I need is to fill in some spots with paint, and of course add the coins I have already.

Hope you have better luck with your fabric than I did years ago. Whatever my fabric was made of, it ruined some nice coins with heavy PVC/corrosion.

    How is that possible?

Must of been some hi-tech acid based man-made "fabric" with plenty of plasticizers added.:)

As far as the OP's display... I didn't think it was going to turn out the way it did. Much better than I initially thought... good job!
