found this two buffalo nickels but there its something wrong with one of them any idea might lost the nickel layer ?
Buffalo nickels aren't clad they are made from a .750 copper and .250 nickel. So it is impossible to be missing a clad layer. Think ground level or better yet below ground level.
ED, Environmental Damage, as mentioned above, it was probably in the dirt for a while. @paddyman98 can show you "tons" of coins he metal detected that look the same. Welcome to CT BTW. Good luck on your searching.
Nickels don't have layers.. Here are my 2 Buffalos and Jefferson Nickels detecting finds All with Environmental Damage Long term exposure to soil, dirt and sand will tone the Cupro-Nickel they are made of.
Paddy that Buffalo in the 2nd picture looks like it was at the battle of the Little Big Horn in Montana.
