The prices are outrageous! I sniped it at the last second (over 20 bids) at $411 an ounce! These make the US Mint Morgans look like a deal. :D

(I created this thread for our silver melt value focused friends.)

For many on here, $74 for a modern silver quarter is too much. I tend to agree, but some have gone for more and some for less. Being the only one I need and probably last one I ever buy, it was worth it to me. The alternative would be to break a proof set up and submit one myself for around $35 and have it come back 3 months later as a 69. There still aren't too many for sale. Maybe should have waited a couple years. Oh well, it's fun to stir the pot sometimes.... and, I wanted one. :D

Which type set is it? NGC, PCGS or a different site?

Expect some of your “sliver melt value friends” to go nuts reading this :)

I have a US Type including moderns registry set going on NGC. Should be able to click the banner in my signature line to see it on the old website if the banner is working. Someone else got me into it. I had quite a few different things to get started and I’ve been working on it for the past 5 years or so. It’s currently ranked 96th. They just added the new Washington quarters maybe a month ago..
The banner doesn’t show up on my phone but it shows up on my computer.

NGC hasn't added the WCD quarter to their census, yet. I wonder when they will get around to that.

Buy what you want but do not tell your wife, fry pans are not just for cooking you know! Good luck.

To be on the safe side you need the “Wife - Garage Logic Strategy”. Carefully place it somewhere in the garage in a not so oblivious place after a month it is yours free and clear of wife scrutiny. If asked you just reply “I found it in the garage” end of story. It once worked for me with my Little Giant Ladder.

I think they have added it. My type coin registry is now 99% complete. When I went to see why, it was because that coin has been added.

The prices are high because you have to bust up $105 Proof set to get it. That is going to keep "the $10 and $20 PR-69 slab collectors," like me out of the neighborhood.

    Cool! I found it: https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/212897/

I like your 1855-O 50C best. Nice colors.

My set is in the “basic US type set +gold (7070)” category… there are a couple of moderns included, too.

The Registry and the Census must be two different things. I just checked and it still lists the Tuskegee Airmen as the last listing for 2021.

I don't have a registry. I have just started to collect 2020 & 2021 coins from circulation. Being rather new, they are in really good shape. (Drat! We live in the flight path of the U.S.Army aircraft and helicopters. The must buzz us at less than a 1,000 feet.) Sorry for the break. Anyway, I have been collecting the U.S. Mint's Proof Sets and Silver Proof Sets since about 2008. Not as far back as other collectors, but I started late.

Nice! I had never looked at those sets. I like how they formatted that one. It seems more reasonable. Some in this other one are about unobtainable and way too many Liberty seated for everything. A few guys have the half disme. Will check yours out on computer later. Thanks for sharing!
I just got a box back from NGC. Will be adding a cleaned 1873 arrows dime at some point. Have come to conclusion any decent looking dime not in a slab... CLEANED. Automatic. Even if toned.

This thread was waiting and waiting for someone to post this. Lol. I’d be really happy if the seller would actually ship it. Starting to wonder if they even had them.

Of course they are. The NGC Census is a population report: https://www.ngccoin.com/census/

The NGC Registry is where you as a collector add your coins to your set: www.ngccoin.com/registry

There’s a new kid in the block now, at least for the type sets:

Mmmm. 163. That’s not a lot. I’m still waiting for a shipping confirmation from seller too. Starting to wonder if this auction wasn’t a surprise preorder or if he doesn’t even have box back from NGC yet.

    @Vess1
either way the seller should have stated it was a pre-sale or it's on the way back from NGC.
I will say a lot of times your better off buying on the secondary market then submitting yourself.

Well, DOH! I was just curious to know how many have been graded PF70. Yes, I know they are different categories, but when does the Census input catch up with the Registry input?
