Greetings, Google brought me here and I needed some opinions about a blank penny I came across. I was redeeming a bulk of change at my local coinstar machine and this kept popping out of the rejected coin return. I think it's a blank penny, but it's got no rim and it's a bit smaller than an actual circulated penny. I scanned both sides for your consideration. What do you guys think? Thank you to all
I am guessing it is a slug and not a coin blank/planchet. Even if it were an unstruck cent, the weight should be the same and the size difference marginal, and thus should not be getting rejected. Can you weigh it on a gram scale? Also strange that the top photo appears to have a rim, while the bottom does not. My guess is that it is not a U.S. coin blank/planchet, and is either one for a foreign country or is a slug.
Thank you, I could try to go to a jeweler tomorrow to see what it weighs and report the findings later.
