I'm looking to invest and buy gold bullion 1oz bars. I'm researching websites online and getting a little worried. Some of the top results that come up, once I research them on the BBB see to have grades of D's ! I was then very close to a purchase on another site and when I went to checkout said that the seller could not currently receieve money!!!! I'm coming to the pro's here to see what website would be the BEST and SAFEST to buy bullion bars that is located within the US.

    Any suggestions?

Hope it is ok for me to comment. All the below I have received great service from even if they did not get my full order in the end.

** denotes those with the best quotes, and phone service help.
    * denotes good over all service for small orders and lots of product choices/specials.
    -----------------------
** Discount Gold and Silver Trading/Melanie Cederstrom. I was in a awkward situation. She was willing to educate me. If I only had 1768.65 cents to spend on junk silver, I hear she would happily sort out the face value that works. She also advertises weekly specials. She was very approachable (busy) but approachable when I contacted her on a couple occasions.

** Tulving - I forget the owners name. His business phones rings at his home at the beach. He will answer the phone at 1 am in the morning. I thought I would be leaving a phone machine to leave a message. He was very very nice to me. I want to say his name was Hains or something like that. For big ticket items, his prices can't be beat. He also refunds the charge for a wire transfer.

    * Apmex - When I have numis questions, I email Issac Wallie. He is always willing to do research and give me an honest opinon. Some times I can't always buy the two coins I really really want. Issac Wallie will kindly assist me in making up my mind. He will pull the coin out and comment. This has been very helpful.

    Good luck.
BTW, you did good in getting your question in a suitable thread/forum.

From Franklin Sanders/The Money Changer, I received good pricing on $2,000 face junk silver, and did great on some georgeous $50 Pesos from Mexico. I like the $50 Peso alot. The price was at spot.

Goldmart plants reviews all over the web. Even this forum has had goldmart fake posters (thinly veiled ads for the site). Any site that does business like that, I wouldn't do business with.

AdamD777, out of curiosity, what were the top results that you found with poor BBB grades?

One was US Gold Bureau. Can't remember the other one off-hand........but it came up high on the ranks.

I don't do Apmex, they want too much. used to use them 5-6 years ago, no more. Goldmart is fine, or put in bids at Bullion direct.

I've used APMEX a few times in the past but their shipping/insurance is costly. Lately I've used Provident Metals and was satisfied with the whole transaction.
If you have a local coin dealer. compare hls/her price with the online guys. Include shipping for the online dealers and see if your local dealer has a decent price, and if he charges tax. Do the math.

Just make sure you're comfortable with who you buy you PM's from.

In addition to provident metals I highly recommend mintproducts.com. Their prices are reasonable, their coins are perfect but their shipping is slow. I'm okay with their slow shipping because their coins were worth the wait. They are slow because they are so busy. Before they completed my order they called to ensure I made the order and to notify me it was on its way. I plan to continue to business with them with confidence.

I usually buy locally, walk in with cash walk out with the goods. No worries about shipping charges, being home for the mailman, lost/stolen packages ect.

  16. I just completed an online survey for Apmex offering a "free gift" upon completion. It turned out to be free shipping off my next order of $3000 or more. Wow! Thanks! If I am dropping $3K+ on PMs, I am not worrying about saving a few bucks on cost of shipping. :D. TC

I had the same experience, TC. Here's a copy of the email I sent them.

I just finished taking your survey and the thank-you gift was free shipping on an order of $3,000.00. Are you kidding me? What a crappy gift! Why don't you make it a purchase amount the typical person would spend or maybe just let's say give a $5.00 or $10.00 shipping discount off of an order of $250.00 or so, etc. Anyway, that gift is pretty disappointing and I won't be in a big hurry to order from your company again as your shipping prices are pretty steep anyway compared to Provident Metals, Mint Products, etc.Adios, muchacho.

Also, I called them Friday morning with a question regarding item availability. The person said they didn't know, but would call me back later that morning. Guess what? No call. I'm beginning to like that company less and less. I think they will soon be booted from my Top 5 list.

  18. TH: I like the email. I used to order from them all the time but now maybe 1-2 times/year. Dave McCarty used to be their Director or Marketing and a member of this forum a while back and would respond to any inquiries. I remember getting $5 off $50 or $10 off $100 orders or free shipping coupons all the time. TC

Ill have to check into mintproducts. I usually go with provident when ordering online for silver. I always check apmex but provident metals always has better spot prices
