http://www.coinshows.com/marlboro_ea.html Collect89 & ancientnoob will be at the Bay State Coin Show this Friday September 6th. We hope to visit with several ancient & World coin dealers. Please let us know if you are planning to attend the show on Friday. Perhaps we can schedule a time to meet all the CTers at the show. Allen Berman's table is typically a good place to meet. He almost always has plenty of attendees at his booth and he typically displays a great selection of world and ancient coins. See you all there. P.S. This is posted in World & ancient section because there's going to be several world coin dealers at the show. Also, World & ancient coin collecting is the theme of our quest.
Hmm, I always wondered about Batman. Now we know I won't be at that show but hey Anoob... you have some idea of my tastes... if you see anything I must have, shoot me a pic??
Although I might be a few thousand miles out, I appreciate notice and reviews of shows. Partly because of my webpages on how much I like shows, I get asked if I know of any worthwhile in other areas so I'd like to know if Bay State (wherever that is) is good, bad or so-so. My next show to attend is Virginia Numismatic Association 54th Convention & Coin Show Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center, 2371 Carl D. Silver Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. The one last year was OK but not magnificent with most coins I bought being from one dealer who also does shows in Richmond and Baltimore. The facility is very nice and much larger than needed for the number of dealers so there is no problem with crowded aisles. Of course, most dealers are US only but that is standard everywhere.
The Bay State show is held annually in Boston. Historically it has been held in downtown Boston. This year it is at The BEST WESTERN ROYAL PLAZA HOTEL at 181 Boston Post Road West (Route 20 west), Marlboro, Massachusetts. We will post some photos for those that cannot make it to the show.
Hey ... yah, I'm kinda out of the ol' national coin-circuit, but I thought that I should give you a bit of a heads-up, so that you can make all of the necessary holiday arrangements ... => Ummm, it looks good, but it is not yet 100% confirmed ... => the first Northern Manitoba polar bear, beluga whale, and ancient coin show? Book now!! (it is quickly going out of stock!!)
We attended the Bay State Coin Show this last weekend. Security was good and everyone that paid $6 to get in received a wristband. The dealer tables were located in a small room, a hallway, and in the main ballroom. It is an annual show in Marlborough Massachusetts. The show management claims that the show is the largest in New England. I counted about 90 dealers present. The show management allowed us to take a couple photos of the bourse area. Perhaps 10% of the dealers were exclusively displaying ancient coins. Perhaps 30% of the dealers exclusively displayed World material. It was a healthy mix with the balance of the dealers showing US material.
That is about half the dealers but double the percentage of world/ancient compared to my beloved Baltimore shows. I have always wondered why Baltimore does not charge admission to the public and might prefer fewer attendees but I believe that would encourage the guys with suits and discourage sellers of beginner's material who make some sales to people walking by never knowing you could collect ancients. I do know that it only takes one good seller to make a show worthwhile to me and I rarely buy from more than three different sellers at a single show. It is very much a matter of fit. I enjoy asking dealers I know how the show is going and always get both 'great' and 'horrible' responses at the same show. For them as well it is very much a matter of bringing what people are buying.
Looks like a good time (thanks for the photos) .... man, I would have zero-cash by the time I left that room!!
Honestly => everybody would be on the floor, and helicopters would be in the air ... => "freeze citizen!!" would be the last thing that I remember ... ... just jokes ... it would be "awesome!!"
