I brought them home to see if there were some problem coins, other than whizzed coins. I know a few have been whizzed. Please ignore the written grades.. I wrote most of them a long time ago. The variety destinations I believe to be authentic! But don't be afraid to be critical.
Does anyone else love Barber Dimes? I didn't like most of his, "Barber's'", other, stuff other than the Liberty Head Nickel.
I love the Barber Series. But not into putting a set together. Way too expensive. I only have a few coins and they are mostly BU. I will need to put out some dough for the BU Barber Halve, then I will finish the That mini series. I have the Dime and the Quarter in BU.
I guess somebody had no problem writing on their Dansco pages. What you have here is the best that many of us can afford to put together, so congratulations. With Barber dimes, I don't know if I'd want to put together a year set like this, or just a key-date set and just get the best examples that I could afford. Hmm?
Thanks It took me 5 years to get this far. And those last holes are so hard to come by. I love these coins and they are by far my favorite. All the RPDs and thus forth. So I really had to search hard for all those varieties.
Yes, found it one day on eBay of all places. I had to buy a bunch of them to get this one, but I recognized the protruding 2 in the bottom curl of the three. Couldn't believe my luck. They weren't even being bid on.... so I paid only 5 dollars for the entire lot. I have a ton of extra pieces due to buys like this.
This was my first Dansco album, and also my first full series collection. I have since resulted to posting a guide at the beginning of my books to explain various variities, A hole punched page explaining the FS variities.
Most dealers think I'm crazy for doing this too. But I'm a preservationist. I know I may never have the 1894S but, oh well only 6 people do. But the others I need are just a matter of allocating money from the budget each month.
Believe me. I hoard too. I just got back from the grocery store. And after paying the checkout girl the correct change, I had to take back the peace medal nickel that I just gave her and instead I have her a 2011 beat up dime. I couldn't part with it.... Just an ordinary 2004 peace meal nickel, AU at best. I always imagine that I'll be selling it in a coin store after I retire. So I end up putting more coins in flips than I can store. If that's not insanity I don't know what is. As for bills, I can't help but keep every CU dollar I get in change. I only spend the dirty beat up ones. I use cash mainly because I want the change. I've found so many errors and varieties that way. My latest find was a 2004D Roosevelt dime with ear doubling. I ended up trading it today for a silver maple leaf. At the end of every day I look through my change and separate all the copper pennies from the mostly zinc ones and also keep all 2009 cents.
I have the full set, although many are not much above G-VG. I did have fun collecting them as I am sure you are. Edit: No 94S. (glad you mentioned that)
I love the Barbers but so far they are limited to a proof dime, quarter and half for my US type set. They are pricey in high grades.
