Hey Ya'll Today in at my dealers I saw a NICE world gold coin..... dd: :rolling: I can't believe I said NICE..... I think it was a 4 ducat from Austria....I couldn't find a date but it was in nice shape....AU/BU....any idea on the value....I guess since I can't remember a date that will be hard but what would be melt or whatever?? It was about the size of a Silver Dollar...but not as thick... Thanks Speedy
I asked what he wanted for it but you know what he wants and the value is not the same....nice coin and I would think about buying it but since he doesn't deal much in World Coins I would want to know if I could get down the price alittle. Speedy
Actually, it's .4438 oz. of pure gold. AGW - the actual gold weight of the coin - is calculated by multiplying 14 x .986 which is the coin's total weight in grams by the percentage of pure gold, and converting the result (13.804g) to troy ounces. Krause generally lists both total coin weight and AGW or ASW for gold and silver coins. Of course with 23-2/3K gold, the copper doesn't add a whole lot of weight.
Hey Spencer, I imagine it was the 1915 restrike issue. Like the (1) ducat, the 1915 issue was restruck quite a bit - you can find frosty uncirculated and proof examples. the date should have been on the reverse @ 10:00. It is a beautiful coin, but I always thought they should have decreased the diameter and added to the thickness... in porportion, it looks so thin!
This one was almost PL...BTW--Its good to see you around here...I hadn't seen you in a few days and was wondering what happened. I total agree...I would have had him put it back and stated paying on it but I like thicker coins....the ones that were thin look like you could amost bend them.... Speedy
Just about all of them are Proof Like. And you can bend them, quite easily. They normally sell for about $200.
Thanks Doug....his price was a little high as I thought it might be..... Ouch.....that would be bad...buy the coin and then have a friend looking at it and it bends Speedy
The 1915 issue wasn't issued originally, so if it's 1915 it is a restrike (there wasn't an "original" 1915 coin so to speak, these were all issued years later). This may be common knowledge (and what you meant), but just to clarify as the wording above is a bit confusing.
He was wanting $250.....but then after looking at some $10 USA gold pieces for $175 that looks high....just can't find a better coin than a US coin!!...hun Doug?? Speedy
Hey Speedster... Did you fall off the boat? Sometimes that fresh splash of salt water from across the big pond is quite the refresher! For me I am after 1 or 2 more "Darkside" gold pieces...will show you when I get em..one of these days..got word from PCGS on the 1991 1/2oz AGE and it has shipped and on the way to me... :secret: I'll keep ya posted!! RickieB
I almost did... ....but from what I read here if I watch I might find one cheaper...and maybe when I find one cheaper I can jump out of the boat and then jump back in real fast Speedy
I'm afraid you have crossed the line my young friend and there is no going back But nuttin wrong with that - it's a good thing The price of these will fluctuate with the price of gold - that is a given. But it is not at all uncommon to find them for less than spot. That's because they are so common, if you sell them to a dealer you will get less than spot. Of course the same is true when selling any coin for bullion value.
You mean after I bought that Ducat I can't ever go back to the place I was before that !! Ok....I guess since there is nutting wrong with that I'll just stay on the edge Speedy
