I know some countrires have 20 cent coins instead of 25 cent coins for general circulation, so, are there any countries that have $25 notes for general circulation instead of $20 notes?
Go to eBay and search "25" in Coins & Paper Money > Paper Money: World To answer your question: plenty of countries.
In the USSR there were 25 Ruble notes - but afterwards in Ukraine there were only 20 Hryven notes. Russia's smallest denomination note now is 50 Ruble - the 5, 10 Ruble notes were replaced with coins.
The Dutch and their old colonies all seem to have some odd banknotes, Suriname has had 2.5, 25, 250 and 25,000 Gulden notes and even when they changed to the dollar in 2000 they still kept the 2.5 Dollar note. Anybody know why the Dutch have these strange numbers?
They don't - they just used to, until about ten years ago Why Suriname still does it ... no idea. I find such setups, with "quarters" etc., less practical than having multiples of 1, 10 or 100 - but at least the Dutch coins and notes were consistent in that they used the "quarter" setup for both coins and notes. Other countries - see the US for example - use 25 cent coins but 20 dollar notes. Now that is strange. Christian
