Yah, I love animal-coins and coins with weapons on 'em => but man, I absolutely "LOVE" coins with ships!! => so this sweet example was caught in my web at first-sight => I fired-out a CLIO-bid and it ran the gauntlet!! (*score*) I love this coin .... it has a very cool portarit of "young" Caracalla .... plus, it's obviously bringin' one of the coolest galley reverses I've ever seen!! (yummy-yummy!!) I hope you like it (but I'm never gonna sell it!!) Caracalla. As Caesar, AR Denarius Struck AD 201-202 AD 196-198 Rome mint Diameter: 18 mm Weight: 3.17 grams Obverse: Laureate and draped bust right Reverse: ADVENT AVGG, galley left; signum and aquila at stern Reference: RIC IV 120; RSC 3 Other: 6h ... VF, lightly toned From the Dr. George Spradling Collection
Ooops => hey, I forgot to add-in => please, please, please post any coins that fit this thread!! (ships, Caracalla, young dudes, whatev)
Well, I am a total sucka for my other sweet Caracalla-example (wow, I really have this ruler covered with choice coins!!) I love this next coin!! (it's definitely one of my top-ten)
Thanks, randygeki ... yah, I like this new score (it's a quality addition) Ummm, how 'bout somebody posts a galley, or ship ... otherwise, you'll be forced to see my stuff "again" ... oh, but it will eventually encapsulate you anyways ... tick-tock... c'mon galley-guys-n-gals => man-up!!
OK.Steve.. Missing you cheerful friend.. Here's a galley of Valentinian the second, along with 2 other young dudes being of Theodosus the second and probably Valens. Hope all these 3 coins might fit the thread.
Well Bing, my dear ol' Granny used to drink a wee bit and then she'd spout-out => one man's wagon is another man's safety-raft to coin-heaven!! ... ahhh yah, I miss good ol' drunk Granny!!
Love it, Steve!!!! Hey, with you off the wagon, how an I going to score any new coins??? LOL My youthful and 'cute' Caracalla denarius:
MN. FONTEIUS ROMAN REPUBLIC; GENS FONTEIA AR Denarius OBVERSE: Jugate heads of the Dioscuri REVERSE: Galley under oar Struck at Rome 108-109 BC 3.9g, 20mm Cr.307/1, Fonteia 7
Wow => nice additions, fellas ... that's the fricken spirit!! Ummm, I'm gonna toss-in a few of my boat-coins ... => sweet, eh?
Hey => maybe it's an "ark" ..... two goats below deck!!? Dude => I bought a chick-coin today ... ... hey, check-out my other thread ... ummm hey, Faustina hinted that she kinda likes my new boat ... I'm just sayin'
So many Roman reverse types are static, but this one has great motion. The way the galley is tilted upward, the waves, and the banner flapping in the breeze all give it a sense of movement that's very distinctive.
I agree, 100% => the dude was obviously an artist ... => this cool craft has "motion" and thankfully he made a great effort to make this coin look a wee bit 3-D ... I think it's absolutely awesome!! (thanks for your critique, JA)
Spectacular! That's one sweet little galley , indeed. Nice score, Steve. I rounded up a few galleys to join your boat party. Where to, Captain? Marcus Aurelius's: Hadrian's: Mark Antony's: Allectus's: Postumus's:
