I just noticed 2 American eagles I purchased in the last year don't have a date on the front and have the word copy stamped on back. They weigh 1.10 ounce and do not stick to my earth magnet. Are these real silver? Or did I get ripped off? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
they might be silver art rounds. thinking real. ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-1-Troy-oz...pt=US_Bullion_Bars_Rounds&hash=item5afbc22180 REAL art round.
Silver rounds would be stamped with the silver purity, like .925 or .999. In the case of your coins it says right on them they are 1 troy ounce .999 silver. The reason they weigh 1.1 ounces is because the scale you are using is set to standard ounces instead of troy.
But, are we safe to assume these are pure silver? With the word copy stamped in them, they still make me nervous. I would try to find other such items and who made them, if they are indeed pure silver, etc. Remember, tons of fake rounds all labelled "1 ounce silver" have come out of China the past couple decades. Op, not to pick on you, but this will show you why you need to educate yourself on what you are buying and pay attention. If you paid ASE price for these, at a minimum you have lost that premium since these are not ASEs, at worst you bought worthless potmetal. I am hoping thses are still silver, but am not convinced.
Because I was new at buying them and pretty much bought them to save and I don't really sit around looking at them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Art rounds are usually required to be marked COPY if they copy a regular issue coin. There are all kind of silver rounds and people normally discount them from the purer Eagles. Unless they are as pure and the Art is good the Morgue Annie's are selling for more than raw common date Eagles.
I'm more interested in them being real silver than real eagles. I only bought on eBay once or twice mainly from companies though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chris (medoraman) brings up a good point. It says .999 silver but that is not a guarantee. The weight seems correct, but are they the same diameter and thickness as a genuine ASE?
I'm ok with that as long as it's at least worth the scrap silver value. I plan on having it for a long long time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dude, all you gotta do is look at any of the bullion companies and see it's a common walking liberty round they sell. Here is a link to one of them. http://www.jmbullion.com/1-oz-walking-liberty-silver-round/ Modern Coin Mart sells them, many others do too.
Then that's probably it. They sell lots of silver bullion coins or rounds. I have been contemplating buying a few of that design myself. I have some of the Morgan design and they are actually a real nice looking bullion round. There is also a Mercury Dime design out now that looks real nice.
