Hi I was wondering about the 2000 P wounded bird coin Sacegawea Dollar. Now I do not know all the terms but would the line be indented at all or would it stick out? I found a odd one yesterday that has one or 2 of these lines in the wings and need to have a closer look but wanted to know this question to maybe tell off the bat if its pre or post? THANKSJON
were there any variations of this? As maybe where the line goes through the feathers? Or is what I see the only error?
far as i know that pic is the only wounded eagle, i have not heard of or seen pics anywhere of any variations...
Ok Thanks I got a 10x loupe and it was PMD inverted line, The wife bought 50 dollars of gold dollars for me yesterday customer rolls and I at least rec one with the arrows on the back that Is A nice 2010. Can anyone explain the A and B difference to me on those years. I had one that I could hardly read the edge lettering on and sent it back to her store before I now see that they had lightly done some of that to a few. But I could not differentiate between the A and B or 1 and 2 different ones in Ebay pics> Also saved a dollar 2010 with an Indian planting corn I thought was cool! LOL Just to say why I did this is I bought 25 dollars of SBA's on ebay one day for like 26.00 free ship and had them for years a month or so ago I was gonna spend them so I looked them up and darn if I did not have a real nice near date in the stack! But my old eye's have a hard time with some of these dif hub strikes unless there is a red line or something showing this is a A or this is a B, Ha Ha Sucks getting old!!! THANKS A TON GUYS
the "A &B" or "1 & 2" on sacagawea and presidential dollars usually refers to the orientation of the edge lettering, circulated and uncirculated dollars are minted in a 2 step process so edge lettering can be read either heads side up or tails side up, (A & B or 1 & 2), proof coins are minted in 1 step so all proofs will be orientated the same way..
Thanks for the info Ken454, And here I thought it was just a dryer coin with missing edge lettering well not missing but hardly there and sent it back? Oh well Learn on that one I guess. I did find out however that Sacegawea dollars that are well worn look like sba's after time or at least a few of mine were almost all silver in color except for the edge still held some coloring? So I take it they are plated? From the mint?
With the coin laying on a table top obv up, if the edge lettering is upside down it is Pos A. If the edge lettering is right side up, it is Pos B. All proofs are Pos B (to the best of my knowledge.)
