Since mycurrencycollection.com only goes back to 1981, is there any way to see if this note is worth any more than $50? B10592601* Series 1977
The 1977 $50 B..* had 2,112,000 notes printed, in 20 mostly tiny runs. Yours is from run 17, a run of 256,000 notes, which sounds small by modern standards but is actually (tied for) the largest of the 20 B..* runs in the series. Obviously, with such a large number of tiny star runs, nobody collects these things by run. (That's probably *why* that website only goes back to Series 1981: that's when the BEP started using larger star runs, so that a collection of stars by run becomes feasible. The 1977 $50 had 95 star runs for all districts combined; the 1981 $50 had nine.) So to get an idea of the value, you need to go by the total quantity printed for the district. And 2,112,000 notes is the second-highest total for any district in the 1977 $50's, so this is a fairly common star for the series. I expect you'd still be able to get *some* premium over face value for it, but it'd be heavily dependent on condition--if the note's not in high grade, the premium would probably be smaller than, say, the Ebay fees to sell the note.
Getting off the subject of your $50 dollar bill just a little bit The movie Star Wars, was released on May 25, 1977 (The title of your thread made me think about that)
there is talk of a 7th movie... and it goes on, and on, and on. at least they are still entertaining.
