I'm wondering when was the last time a government officially made hammered coins for circulation? My latest hammered coin came from the kingdom of Travancore, this Viraraya gold fanam from 1881. I'm pretty sure some small kingdoms still issued coins with the ancient technology of wacking with a hammer well into the 20th century. Post any 19th-20th century modern hammered coins if you have any or know the existence of such coins. It's even better If there are any semi/official hammered coins from the 21st century!
I don't have any examples handy, but I'm pretty sure a few of the Indian states were hammering coins until independence.
Certainly Indian Princely states were still producing hammered coins well into the 20th century, Including Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur and Tonk. A quick glance through Krause came up with a Tonk 1934 1/8 Rupee as the latest I spotted.
Don't think Bhutan had struck coinage until around 1928. Some 20th century hammered. These always fascinated me as a young collector.
