Designed and Sculpted by John P. McGraw, United States Mint Medallic Artist Depicts a portrait of Jovita Idar with her hands clasped. Within her body are inscriptions representing some of her greatest accomplishments and the newspapers for which she wrote. The text includes the inscriptions “MEXICAN AMERICAN RIGHTS,” “TEACHER,” “JOVITA IDAR,” “NURSE,” “EVOLUCIÓN,” “ASTREA,” “EL HERALDO CRISTIANO,” “LA CRUZ BLANCA,” “JOURNALIST,” “LA CRÓNICA,” “EL PROGRESO,” and “LA LIGA FEMENIL MEXICANISTA,” as well as “QUARTER DOLLAR,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” How in the world can the mint fit all of this onto a single quarter. Geez that is A LOT
I see them as the mint, or powers that be, trying to get more detailed designs into our coins. I rather like them, especially the Edith coin as it says 25¢. Both designs will lend themselves to lots of die chips and cracks, so it should make a lot of those "I gotta find an error or variety" happy.
I just don't see how all those inscriptions are fitting onto one coin. It's going to be so tiny nobody will be able to read it without a high powered magnifier.
