Question. I found something else on the newest Quarters. Is the a die distortion doubling of the nose? It seems to progress from small to larger. I have 18 of these with basically the same shift in the nose. My Dad told me that just one coin is nothing, but three or more, there is something there that isn't right.
Interesting! I see pitting on the arm in the last photo -- I'm wondering if we're seeing some kind of post-mint damage, but I don't know what it would be. Your other photos certainly do seem to show progression on the nose; I'm just not sure of what.
This is not die distortion doubling. The nose is MD (flat and shelf like) MD removes part of the intended device.. It can happen anywhere on the coin.. It can be more extreme on one device compared to another.. All three of these fit your coins above.
Here is a five photos of the progression of the MD or DDD. I found 38 coins just like these in two bags of the quarters. coin
I can imagine an increasingly loose die producing a "progression" of strike doubling until they fixed it. Maybe. I'd still like to see a full obverse shot of that last one in your first post, the one with the pits on the arm... Edit: and yes, good pictures!
-jeffB Those marks are not pitting, they are scuff marks from other coins in the bag. Here is a photo of the full reverse and a close up of the marks.
