@JCro57 here's the coin I mentioned. I got it in change from a self checkout coin return at Walmart. My white LED lights don't do it justice. I wish I had got some pics in natural light before it got dark. I'll get some shots tomorrow if you or anyone else want to see them. In natural light the coin fades from a grey blue color around the edges and into bright copper at the center. The edge is completely silver all the way around and the coin appears to still have a somewhat dull luster. My lights makes it look even more dull than it is. The issue I have is that I think "black beauty" is skin deep, lol. By that I mean it has some circulation wear and tear that is still covered and filled by the toning. Which is why I think it was toned after it was struck. To be honest all improper annealing just looks like environmental damage to me though, lol. The first three shots are diffused white light and the last two are direct 90° lighting.
So I managed to get a couple of low res natural light images as I was trying to tune the camera settings. Unfortunately these will be the only and last pictures I can take... I went out to the deck for natural light pictures and noticed it was a little windy (20mph wind today with 49mph gusts). I was using the same book cover I always use for a background when one of those awesome wind gusts flipped the book open catapulting the coin into the air rolling across the glass table, down onto the deck where it continued to roll down the entire length of a 10 foot deck board to fall into leaves never to be seen again, lol. C'est la vie
