The 2020 Silver Burnished Eagle is currently unavailable at the US Mint. They may sell more later and maybe not. My question is do you think this could be a low production coin. I have already purchased a SP69 and SP70. Thinking about buying a few more incase this one does like the 2019 S reverse proof silver eagle pricewise.
It's a crap-shoot, but I think they will sell more. The question is, how many. I do not like the reverse because the shield makes the eagle appear obese.
The reverse proof and the burnished eagle are two different animals. If you look at the price history of the burnished eagle since its inception in 2006, the raw specimens sell for less than the original purchase cost from the Mint. Unless you can guarantee that you'll get a 70 from NGC or PCGS, I wouldn't spend the extra money. ~ Chris
You would have a 50/50 chance of being right. On the other hand, you have a 50/50 chance of being correct. I know, that was a big help.
Buy it if you like it. Buy it if it pleases you. Don't buy it if you think you're gonna make money. It's collecting that matters and lately the mint has been screwing me royally, but I'm a collector, too impatient to wait for the 'aftermarket'.........
1. Do I think 2020 Collector coins will be under minted? YES 2. Do I think the value will go up? YES 3. Did I buy a couple extras of the ones I liked ? YES 4. Did I bust the budget to do it? No 5. Do I think the Mints are busy producing circulating coins to counter the coin shortage so less collector coins are being made? Yes 6. Do I think the Collector coin production is being sidelined because of this? YES 7. Do I know for sure? No 8. Do I think there will be a good number of low mintage coins in 2020. YES! All of the above is just speculation on my part. Yes I bought extras of the ones I liked, so even if they don't get wildly valuable I still have coins I like, and if they do soar in value, then I'm good to sell a couple, or use them as trade stock for something I might want in the future.
Here is a list of their 2020 sales figures thru 07/12/20. It may be useful to see whats actually being sold and in what quantity. https://www.usmint.gov/about/production-sales-figures/cumulative-sales
I don't really see how number 6 could be true because all or almost all of the collector coins are struck at San Francisco or West Point, and they don't make circulation coins.
I believe I heard( somewhere here on CT) that all mint facilities are working on circulating coins now because of the shortage......but I may be wrong.
