I have 2 sets of 2009 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set i had three but sold one on ebay i got $128.00 for it do you think i should keep them and wait for price to increase or should i sell now while everyone is interrested :smilein them
If you've got no feelings for collecting these sets then by all means sell them 'cause I believe the price for these issues will drop, rather than rise, in the months to come....MHO, others may differ. :smile
Since I was ask my opinion about these sets, I will guess the prices will come down somewhat. I however would not underestimate the timeless popularity of Abe. From most of the post I have read here and elsewhere, people like these sets.
I agree. I think these sets are going to drop quite a bit. If you look at the coins in them, they aren't limited much at all. All they are is the 4 regular cent proofs and a proof $1 silver commemorative. None of these coins are rare, what you are buying is the holder they come in (which a lot of people don't use anyway in the end). So, I say sell now while they are hot because IMHO it's the only time they will be.
How many proof 95% copper cents did they make this year? Years out most people won't remember they had a special formulation in 2009 to honor Abe Lincoln. Coin collectors will know, of course, but your average ebayer and yard sale Joe Sixpack will not. I expect these will go up over time. I also expect to see fake sets with the copper cents stripped out and replaced with everyday zinc specimens. Not to mention that the "certificate of authenticity" is worthless. I could print those myself.
Looks like the price has already leveled off in the range around $125 - $140. Maybe one last opportunity to sell around the 2009 holidays between third week of November and second week of December. Then it will mostly drop off in January. I think by that time most collectors will have them in their hands, in the collections they were destined for but and demand will be weak thereafter. Also anyone breaking the sets to slab who sell their sets -and- who sell the empty sets are opening up recycled sets where someone else will build and potentially sell their own LN6 from coins issues earlier.
The only issue is if you want to sell in my opinion. I have the set and I am tickled pink with it. They look great in a very nice looking book. Since I am a Lincoln penny collector, at least that's what I'm trying to complete. Just four coins shy. This is a nice addition. There was plenty of talk on this forum about it before the sell. so I imagine there is some value to having the set. 20 years from now when there are no more coins in circ., I will be pulling this out for another look see. Why worry about the value if you are going to keep it? I certainly am not going to get my underwear in a knot about the value on ebay.
