Hi all, recently received a 5 dollar bill 2006 series. It's non colorized I've noticed that pretty much every other 2006 5 dollar i have seen is the newer colorized version Probably been asked here before, but i couldn't come up with the proper search terms to find anything that helped What exactly is the deal with the colorized vs non colorized 2006 series 5's? the serial number is HG 63402880 A Thanks
The series 2006 $5 notes should all be colorized. Could you post a scan of the front and back of the note?
Oh! Good Doctor. Series 2006 was the transition to the "Kodachrome" notes and there were two designs issued for the Series.
SERIES 2006 $5 notes come both ways - the earlier ones, with serial numbers starting with 'H', are of the old non-colorized design while the later ones, with serial numbers starting with 'I', are of the newer 'Kodachrome' design. The change in design was fairly hurried in order to quickly increase the security of the $100 due to counterfeiters 'bleaching' the older design notes and using the paper, with its very close watermarks, to print up fake $100s. Wow, learn something new every day I guess. Thanks for alerting me to that guys, and sorry for the misinformation to the OP.
I collect all of the blocks for the 2006 non colorized $5's. The only ones I am looking to upgrade are the following blocks listed below. Here are some great links to check out on the subject: http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2006_q.html http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2006qq.html Go ahead and compare them. I am looking for nicely graded HFB, HFC, and HIA 2006 non colorized $5 blocks. At minimum XF. You'll notice that the non colorized series 2006 $5's start with 'H' and the colorized start with an 'I'. I forget exactly how it goes, but one of the two is known as type 1 and the other is type 2. I usually know but I am just having a brain fart right now. Anyone care to assist? Perhaps clay or numbers can provide me with a hand? -tbud
Well it seems like Clay and Numbers are pitching in haha. Clay provided the link to Numbers' post. Thank you, Clay. Nice team work guys! -tbud
No problem! In order to keep straight what happened here, it's really better to think of these $5's as two different series that both happen to be called Series 2006, rather than as two different designs within a single series. Thinking of them that way, the serialling makes more sense. The whole situation is still loopy (why do two different series have exactly the same name?) but that's going to be true no matter how you look at it.
Since you're around Numbers, perhaps you could check out my post in this thread and help to explain some things to tbudwiser and I about finding new $1 BEP straps from so many different districts (including a new strap from the BEP in DC) out here in California. http://www.cointalk.com/t196826/#post1329100
