I found this quarter and have googled to see if there are any similar errors out there and I haven't had any success. The "of America" is fainter, the E in "we" is barely visible, and the last T in "trust" is barely visible as well. It looks to me like a filled die issue. I was wondering if anyone has heard or seen anything like this with the Michigan quarter? Any thoughts as to if it's worth anything? Thanks!
I agree with Conder. Just wanted to add: Grease filled and deteriorated die strikes are not considered errors, and therefore, do not have any added value.
Thanks for the responses! What exactly would I google to see other examples of it or similar die issues? I think things like this are interesting, particularily when I have a hard time finding anything else about the specific coin...
A SEVERE grease fill can bring a premium. For example if most of the design on one or both sides is missing due to grease filling. (Those type of pieces are often mistakenly identified as "die set up" pieces or extremely low pressure strikes. The true die set up or low pressure strikes will tend to be strongest in the center areas and will NOT have well formed rims or edges. The grease filled on the other hand has MORE material between the dies so even though the design doesn't strike up they will normally have well defined rims and sharp edges. And a low pressure strike will always be weak on both obv and rev. If the detail is only weak on one or the other it's a greaser.) A severe grease fill can bring a premium but nothing like the much rarer very low pressure strikes or die set up pieces.
I've got the 2004michican quarter too on the front its got different dies and there's a rim around it but the backs not just the die messed up most of it u can't see can y'all help me?
