i had bought mine for 200 single coin around 2007 -2008 guess it turned out to be a lemon of an investment
I bought mine for $200 at my local coin shop last year. I know I saw single coin being sold for $200+ in a big coin magazine last month. But they were graded, but in the mint set they look like ms69 or ms70.
I have a 2002 and a 2003 that I bought a few years ago. They are not in a mint box, just a plasitc sleeve. I have been wondering what their value was. Condition is very nice.
They only made it for one year in 2001 from the mint. You might have a silver round with the buffalo pattern on it.
Back in the old days the Mint sold the 2-pc set for $64. They d'unt last long at all and the prices soared big time after sell out. Those were the days...
I like the 2001 Buffalo Dollar as example of what a little demand will do for the price of a modern commem. This dollar sold out with a huge mintage for a modern commem, yet it soared in price – think what the really low mintage ones will do if/when the series catches on. Most of the BU/Matte Proof mintages are similar to the classic commem half dollars, with the added benefit of being silver dollars. Now, if the mint would only make the modern commem halves in 90% silver.
The day they went on sale I finally gave up on the mint's web site after about 2 hrs. It was so overloaded nobody could access it. It then took me about 4 hrs to finally get through on the phone, then I laid in bed, on hold, with the phone next to my ear for another 3 hrs. Finally my turn came and somebody spoke, I ordered 3 sets. As I recall the price was $59 per set. I can't remember exactly how long it took but I'm thinking the sellout took 2 days. It was just a matter of days in any case. It was the first time a sellout had ever occurred, let alone that quickly. Of course there was talk all over every coin forum long before the sets ever went on sale. That talk undoubtedly had a huge impact on what happened once they did go on sale. That was the coin that started all the craziness with modern commems. prior to that it was hard to give the things away, well with a few exceptions. Prices shot up almost immediately. Sets eventually hit $400-$450, and it took quite a few years for the prices to drop off. What happened to that coin also a marked impact on previous commem issues, prices on many of them shot up as well.
Numismedia still lists the value of a PF69 at $181.25. These were also sold in MS. That price is for a single coin not the set.
Before listing my set on E-Bay, I researched the value of this set. The range was from $275-$350 with the high end still available. I listed mine for $300 FREE S&H on 1/4/13 and it sold on 1/9/13. Paul
If you are selling 1 item, using the BST is great. When you are selling hundreds of items, the tracking software that E-Bay provides is essential in staying organized. edited
Still need one of those danged things. Missed the boat 'cause I thought I had time. 9/11 threw me.........
I remember it well, I bet I hit redial 10,000 times. I was a happy camper when a real person started talking...:thumb:
