I have a 2001 Rhode island p quarter that has a error I think. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it I looked at it under the microscope and it's the same depas all of the rest of the coin
Question: Is "P" in Rhode Island any different from "P" in any other state? FYI: The date and mintmark should go together.......2001P or 2001-P.
Usually you see those reeding marks on bigger, heavier coins, like silver dollars. But I guess it does happen on quarters, too. Maybe if they're packed really tightly in a bag, under some pressure, and then the bag is dropped? Something like that.
I believe those ballistic bags weigh 4,000 lbs. Let's assume that all of the coins in the bottom of the bag weigh, collectively, 100 lbs. That means that 3,900 lbs. have been dumped on top of them.
2500 pounds for the quarters plus the ballistic bag and steel skid frame. likely under 3000 pounds. the ballistic bag being $50,000 in quarters or 200,000 pieces at approx. .20 ounce each coin (5.67g each) still though, there's bound to be contact marks one way or the other it's a lot of weight being dumped in to the bags, out of the bags, and bouncing around during transport.
Ballistic Bags are FUN FUN FUN !! lest us not forget the processors and their lack of quality control to make sure each coin is processed in their own felt pouch to stop any damage whatsoever .... oh wait, never mind, they just dump them like their just plain 'ole money and not a "collectable."
like a vending machine ?? say it ain't so. I though vending machines had these robotic grippers that took each coin inserted and inserted them into an individual felt lined pouch for protection ?? Ugh .. guess they're just dumped onto each other.
The trouble with "ticket" technology is they may have a Coin Bag on the bottom which may cause damage to the coins because they just dump on each other. You would think people would treat money as collectibles and not just as money.
