Yesterday I purchased a 1999 Silver Proof Set from a local dealer. When I got home and began looking at the coins, I noticed what I thought was an error on the Delaware quarter. I took it back to the dealer today and he confirms, after looking at other Delaware silver quarters, that it is, indeed, an error. The rein from the bridle in the horses mouth goes across the horses neck and through the mane, but then it stops. It does not go into the riders hand. Has anyone heard of any errors like this? I have tried to take a picture to post, but the coin is obviously still in the plastic US Mint case it came in, and there is a glare on the coin. I've also tried scanning it with similar results. Any ideas on how to photograph it without removing it from the case?
That's pretty cool. I haven't heard of it before. I would categorize it as a variety rather than an error.
Thats a unique find, and especially in a silver proof no less. I would agree and say that should be a variety.
Glad to see they knew how to ghost ride the whip back then. More of a die state than a variety though.
