i have collected coins for a long time and recently come across a binder of coins at an estate sale. it had a 1999 and a 2000 colored silver dollars in separate capsules. the 1999 is colored on one side but the 2000 is full color both sides. the 1999 i can find all info on but the 2000 i can find nothing. both are mint and capsules seem to be untampered with . any ideas on this? i can send pics to anyone who wants thanks
These are the "colorized" version of the Silver Eagle. They have them for every year the ASE was produced. They are not done by the mint, but rather by third parties. Some may colorize both sides, while others may just do the obverse. Here is an example of the 2000: http://www.coinsofamerica.com/american-eagles/colorized/2000-colorized-silver-eagle.html -greg
Like Greg said, these were not colorized by the Mint. Unfortunately, this relegates the value of each one to just about melt with no numismatic value at all. Chris
yeah. i bought them all. numismatic value aside, someone will like it and want it in their collection. it is sealed
Sorry I must be an old grump but i`ve never seen a colorized coin I liked . But I do love the NT coins and the woodies . Colorized coins always remind me of the old bar coins that were used in the jukeboxes .
If you want to save the ASE under all that color, soak it in acetone and the color will come off. Otherwise, you have a coin with post-mint damage. It will still always be worth 1 oz in silver, but you won't get the little bit of premium that undamaged ASEs carry.
I've seen these in shops near me along with quarters that are colorized like that.. They are not my taste but as they say collect what you like..If you like them that is what really matters!! :thumb:
tliner that is what makes it such a great hobby, something for everyone . Good luck with them and I hope you enjoy this hobby as much as I have over the many years .:thumb:
yeah. this is a great hobby. i have been collecting for a lot of years and have managed to aquire quite a large collection including a lot of rare and valuable stuff. it's great to be able to pull it out when you want and spend a few hours viewing your own coins
