I have a 1997 Lincoln Cent, That is unusual, anyway it weighs more than a regular penny.. It looks unplanted and is a little bit bigger than a average cent! Can someone tell me if it could be worth anything!

Looks like the copper plating was removed. Probably via some chemical. Now the zinc is rotting on the inside.

What does the reverse look like?

Judging by the marks on the coin and the condition of the edge, I'd say this saw some acid at some point and also possibly ground with a Dremel or something similar.

It's not fake. It is a real coin that has been altered.
    also, "youtube" and "internet".

    Well.. It's a damaged Cent

You send coins like yours to get attributed, not graded (it will be a waste of your money in my opinion)

Again.. Nobody said it was fake.. It's damaged outside the Mint. Someone very bored damaged these Cents in the very same way and put them into circulation. What don't you understand about that?

Also a lot was said about the 1974 aluminum penny being fake and the mule wheat penny, see not all people are right after all!

Nobody is claiming that it is fake. It is a copper-plated coin with a zinc core that has been subjected to some form of acid that ate away the copper, including that which was on the rim.

You would be wasting your money submitting it for grading and attribution. You would have to spend about $50 just to learn that it is worth 1c.

Don't listen to those people on BoobTube!

Well.. We have seen this same Cent on CoinTalk over the years. And they all turned out to be damaged. Sorry that my opinion does not fit what you want to hear.. My 30+ years of collecting Mint Errors must not be good enough.

I never heard about the Aluminum Cent being fake. It's real, been proven and shown so count that out. The mule 1959 wheat cent is real.. But it is considered a fake!

    (I) never said it was a fake coin. It is real and there are a lot of bored folks around who like to "play" with coins and change them, then dump them back into circulation to confuse others. What you might think you have is an coin that was not copper plated cent that came from the Mint made this way. But this coin has been altered as paddyman98 said. This happened outside of the U.S. Mint, it was not made this way. Cents without plating have found their way into circulation from time to time but they are rarely found on a regular basis. I'm sorry if this was not the answer you were looking for but it's the truth anyways
