Hi! First I want to thank all of you who posted to my other postings, I don't know much about errors but I find them facinating. I have a 1996 D kennedy half that looks like his throat is cut, I have an ostoscope and a good magnifying glass and it dosn't look like it has been scratched or damaged it looks like a wrinkle in the metal. Please tellme what you think.
Hi, It is indeed apart of the normal design. As the die wears or as the coin wears though, it is not as visible. But.... This is exactly what a well struck Kennedy is supposed to look like. It is not an error. Thanks, Bill
Here's a couple that have the crease in his neck. Part of the design. http://www.coinpage.com/coin-image-5170.html http://www.coinpage.com/coin-image-1107.html
Ok not trying to argue with you but my unopened mint proof and my unopened silver proof don't have the wrinkle or line in the neck? Just trying to understand?
Cool! Rockdude I see, it's just like I said it is the only one I have in my collection that has that. Thanks Wade
It is part of the design. It is on each die....as the die wears or as the coin circulates, that portion of the coin loses that detail. there is nothing unusual about it. It has been on Kennedys for a long time, I am looking at a 1989 D with that feature easily visible. As we got into the 1990s and dies were modified, that detail was enhanced and on a well struck coin it is more obvious. That's all there is to it. Keep in mind that die wear also effects Uncirculated coins in sets as well as proof coins. Thanks, Bill
You guys are right, I guess I just got excited with out investigating first. New to coins (errors) hoping one day to find that great error! Thanks for your knowledge! Wade
Keep looking, there are a lot of errors and varieties out there to be found. And keep asking questions, thats how you learn. I still remember the first error I found and still feel a rush when I find something new now. Good luck searching. Bill
