Hi All, I just found a 1993-S Proof Lincoln Cent that has the "AM" on the Reverse close together like the Business Strike Reverse! I know that this was the transitional year from the "Wide AM" to "Close AM" Type Reverses on the Business Strike coins but all of the Proof "S" Mint coins that I have seen (with the exception of the new finds such as the 1999-S Proof Lincoln Cent with the "Close AM" Reverse), have the "Wide AM" Proof Reverse. Do all 1993-S Proof Lincoln Cents have the "Close AM" on the Reverse or is this a new find? If this is a new find, then I would not even venture as to it's worth but if it is more rare than the 1999-P "Wide AM" and 1992-D "Close AM" Varieties, then it could worth a lot! Thanks...Frank
never mind...I miss read you post....so I edited my post ;--) I would think that all PF coins would have Wide AM...so you might have something there. Speedy
Speedy, That is what I thought! If all Proof cents should have the "Wide AM" then this would be a new and very nice find! If it is an error coin, then it has been a long time in coming for me! Hey, did anyone see the Struck Thru 2005 Error Cent that was found in a BU Roll and sold on eBay a few days ago? The coin was listed as "2005 Lincoln Cent Error Rare One of a Kind" - eBay Item number: 8315959441 ... The guy was probably hoping for several hiundred to maybe a thousand or more dollars and when it sold for $5,485.00, he must have wet his' underwear! Frank
1993-S "Close AM" Proof Lincoln Cent - Is this a new error or not? NOT!!!! Hi All, Well after emailing and receiving a response from Ken Potter, I can report that a "Close AM" on a 1993-S Proof Lincoln Memorial Cent is not an error! He explained that 1993 was a year in which the Mints experimented with the "Close AM" Reverse Dies on Proof Cents and "Wide AM" Reverse Dies on the Business Strike Cents. They went back to the "Wide AM" Reverse Dies in 1994 for Proof Cents! He noted that there may be some 1993-S Proof Cents that were minted using "Wide AM" Reverse Dies, so keep looking as these are probably worth a mint! Good Luck...Frank
I can see why, its not just a strike through, its a retained strike through....and is far more than just a bit of wire brush. You should start a seperate error thread on this one, its too cool to have it burried in another thread
I Have Found these coins 1990, 1992, 1993,1999.1 have a lot of them. [Edited - No selling/buying here please.]
