Hello All, I was hoping someone/people could give me an approx. value of what my coin collection was worth. It was a 1989 Canadian Coin Set in a air-tight display book. It had a penny, nickel, dime, quater, silver-dollar coin in it. The coins were never taken out of the display book. It was stolen, and I was hoping to figure out the value. Thanks for feedback. Mark.
The term "display book" makes it sound like a mint issued set but if it was it would have more than 5 coins and probably not a silver dollar. I have a 1989 specimen set in front of me but it has a 50¢ peice and a loon dollar. If we had a little better description - was it a mint produced set or just a put together set -we could give you a better idea. Bill
thanks for your response. Yes, it was a gift I received as a child. They are mint coins as they were sealed inside a collectors book, behind glass, or plastic. To be honest, I haven't actually looked at them for years, and I thought it was a silver dollar, but I could be wrong. It sounds like you have the set I'm talking about. Because the book was stolen, I can't look to see how many coins there were. There were 4-5 coins in the collection, and there was red satin material around the coins. Does this sound like the one you have? Thanks so much. Sorry I can't give more information.... Mark
yes! Actually, it is the same one. It had the loonie, and the 50 cent piece was the one that I thought was the silver dollar. I have never seen that coin before. It's been a while since I looked at it, and am trying to remember it. It had red somewhere on it, maybe inside the cover, and I remember plastic ridges on the border where the coins are. I think there was a silver pewter leaf on the front of the book. Mark.
If it had red satin material it would be a proof set rather than a specimen set and there would be a silver dollar in addition to the loon dollar. The value of the 6 coin specimen set is about $20.00 CDN. The 7 coin proof set would be worth about $40.00 Cdn. Bill
