1987 D Nickel error ?

I'm quite sure it's not cud nor folded finned rim, I just don't know how to describe this. On some letters, it's over the letter so it's not like it's "stretched" and looks like extra metal. Anyone familiar with this ?

It's a Die Deterioration issue

 

This is kind of the ultimate in die deterioration. It looks like the outermost portions of the die have fallen away at each thick letter.

 

Oh interesting, didn't think of deterioration because of the straight edges on the side. Thanks!
