Hello i have a 1987-D Dime that is completely missing the letter "i" from the word "dime". it doesn't appear to have been removed by anything it looks like it was never there before. i have uploaded some pics. let me know what you think please.
A small premium as there are those who collect "struck through" errors. You could probably get a few bucks for it. I've sold them on Ebay and they're unpredictable. Sometimes they go for the minimum bid of .99 cents(in my case at least) and I've had them sell for as much as $20+ bucks. I guess you just have to find a buyer and if you are lucky you have to find more than one buyer who wants the same coin.
I would call it a grease-filled die. (Grease filled the 'I' on the die preventing the I from being struck. I agree with the others - a small premium.
