Just a curious question. I had purchased a 1986 Prestige Proof Set (my daughters birth year) . The set has the regular proof set coins and has a half dollar that celebrates the Statue of Liberty. Yesterday I saw on TV that they were selling th e1986 Statue of Liberty Commemorative half dollar. This coin is definitely different than the one that I have in the proof set. My question is; what do they call the half dollar that I have (from the Prestige Proof Set) if the other one is the commemorative coin?

I have the 1986 Prestige as well. I don't know what you saw either, but maybe you saw the 1986 $5 Gold Liberty Comm. ??? Or the reverse of one you have? They do have other commemoratives that aren't in the regular proof or prestige sets. For example...

1992 Prestige has the usual comm. 50c & $1 but there's also another comm. 50c and $1. I don't know how many comms. are needed per year heh, but...

It is a 1986 Liberty Half Dollar
    1.205 Diameter
    .36 troy oz
    .33 troy oz copper
    .03 troy oz nickel
so its a copper clad coin
OBV. is a right sided view of the statue with New York City in the background, with a sun rise over the city
REV. is derived from a photograph of immigrants at Ellis Island, waiting to go to New York(Mom,Dad,Kids, with their bags on the ground, looking at New York City)

Mine is in a 2 coin set with a(1 oz .900 fine silver coin included).
Box is blue with (United States Liberty Coins)mark on the outside

PS I picked this set up at a local show for $12.50,I'm sure the TV huskters are charging $50.00:eek:

RMF762, you have what is pictured below. Both of these are in the 1986 Prestige set. It's either not what the OP is talking about or the OP got confused and saw the obverse/reverse of the 50c (half) and thought it was another coin.

Your picture is of the coins on top of the felt box?
I have the paper slide and the paper box and the felt box
So what I have came from a 1986 Prestige set that was broken-up?

Not necessarily broken up... the Statue of Liberty half was sold in various packagings that year. It came individually (in either proof or uncirculated), part of a 2 coin set that also included the Statue of Liberty silver dollar (again either proof or uncirculated), part of a 3 coin set that also included the Statue of Liberty silver dollar and $5 gold piece (proof or uncirculated), part of a 6 coin set that also included the Statue of Liberty silver dollar and $5 gold piece with one each of all the coins in both proof and uncirculated; and it was also included in the 1986 Prestige Proof Set. In total there was 10 different packages you could have bought that would have included the Statue of Liberty half.

As for the original question... not sure what else you would have saw that was being sold as the Statue of Liberty commemorative half dollar, as this was the only one ever minted, perhaps you just saw the reverse or obverse and thought it was another coin? Besides these commemoratives (half dollar, dollar, $5 gold piece) the only other coins minted by the US mint that feature the Statue of Libery are the American Platinum Eagles minted since 1997 and the New York state quarter minted in 2001.

Thank you everyone for your replys. It is true that when I looked at the Proof Set, it was opened up in a bookcase and I only glanced at it while watching the TV show. The coin at the top of the Proof Set was the one that I was paying attention to and completely missed the other Statue of Liberty coin in the set. I really have never paid any attention to the set other than for a decoration. I disliked the idea of Prestige and Premire Proof Sets so I was ignorant. Thank you all for straightening me out.
