1986 d quarter error

There seems to be an erroneous amount of “quarter material” conglomerating on the esophageal region of Mr. Washington.

    I think your coin has been exposed to excessive heat and that has caused the bubble on the obverse.

    The coin does look like it's been in a fire, with soot still in all of the crevices.

    Just because a coin looks different, strange or weird doesn't automatically make it a mint error. There are many different ways it could become damaged or altered post mint :yack:

    Good to ask anyways.
