1985 d nickel error

    In 1985 the mint mark was hand punched into each individual die. As long as they were in the general area of where they were supposed to be, it was ok. Your coin is ok.

    Do you think there is some doubling in the 5 on the nickel

    All of those striations you see pointing toward the rim are indicative of die deterioration. There is no doubled die.

    Ok ty ......it just look like a shelf on the top of the 5

    If the "shelf" that you think you see is reference to the term "flat and shelf-like", that phrase is not indicative of a true doubled die. It refers to machine doubling.
