Hi I found a 1984 quarter in a roll that wouldn't fit in the coin washer. Looking at the coin it doesn't look like it was pressed all the way. Its wider than a regular one, its edge is smooth and looks more copper than silver, the mint mark is a blob, the word in you can only see the end of the n, and it has a lip. I am gonna try to add the pics but I am not good at this stuff. If anyone can tell me about it would be great.
Ah, I thought you meant "bigger in diameter", but I think you meant "thicker". Coins get this way when they spend time rolling around in a dryer. That mashes the edge, smoothing out the reeds and making the rim thicker. Do it long enough, and you'll actually see the diameter start to decrease. It's interesting, but this is generally considered "damage", and not collectible. Welcome to CoinTalk!
It has been 'spooned' that is hit on the edge with a spoon to start to make a ring out of it, and someone got tired & gave up
Hello I don’t know if you are still an active user but I have found a quarter that is larger in diameter than the average quarter and I would like to gain more information if you have any about how this could happen
