I have here a 1984 dime with some errors. The errors are in the nose, and it looks to be a poney tail behind his head, aslo his chin appears to be larger and the flames are messed up on the back of the dime. Here is some pictures of the dime, some are scanned and some have been taken with a digital camera. Was wanting to know if it is worth anything? Or I should take to any where to get it lookd at? (I live in ohio) if you want any more pictures just tell me. Thanks, Darrin
First welcome to the forum. The pics of the dime are small but to quess it looks as if that was damaged after it left the mint.
I would say that it is a damaged coin and worth $0.10....maybe someone here will be able to help more. Speedy
The guy that dad got it off of was offerd up to 600 dollars for it and local people offerd up to 200. I wish i could get better pics but its hard to get lol.
Well...I'm not 100% sure but I'm almost that sure that it's not worth the $200 or anything else Speedy
I mean if its a rare dime and no others like it, wouldnt it be worth at least something more than 10 cents?
Its been damaged by the mint i wish you could see it in person, there is no posible way it could be damage in so many ways, if sumtin is damaged, there is always taken away, but this has extra markings which i wish i could show you in picture wich is really hard.
You are free to believe whatever you wish. But badly vandalized coins like this are quite common. The impact damage appears to have warped or bent the coin, and some metal is protruding beyond the edge. Either would indicate post-strike damage. The presence of any sort of a pressure ridge around any one of the indentations is another indicator of post-strike damage. Any flattening on the opposite face across from any of these indentations is an indicator of post-strike damage. The discoloration and rough surface is yet another indicator.
I can’t tell from the pic’s. The chin looks like it could be made of solder. If it’s really an error, say a die cud, it wouldn’t be worth more than a few $. The damage on the coin would subtract from what little value it would have. You can try scanning it again with a higher resolution, maybe 400dpi +.
Scratched, scuffed, pitted, and covered with a layer of black paint (or similar) that's worn through. My opinion remains unchanged.
That was NOT damaged at the mint... As I said...$0.10...and that is if you can get someone to take it as a $0.10. Speedy
No, it's a damaged, painted, scratched, bent dime AND it was shot with a bebe gun. Go for the $200 and tell your dad to invest it in my next ebay auction.
Hey Dude...that is one ugly dime, nearly the worst I have ever seen.. it looks like some one taped it to a bicycle tire and rode all over town with it..skidded a few times as well...I bet the vending machines would not even take it...sorry but its a dog!! RickieB
