Got this in change at college today. What do you guys think? The N and I in united is almost fused together to make a giant N. I tried to get better scans but this the best that would come out.
In doggie years, this coin would be 4, but in circulated coinage years, it would be 93. It's time to retire! Chris
Also, you'll notice on the obverse that the "IN" of "IN GOD WE TRUST", is completely fused together, making it look like a boxing glove. During my coinrolling, that's the first thing that caught my eye about the 1983 (found two today in two rolls, so I'm pretty sure I'm not looking forward to a new Porsche in the near future). But it is interesting that I've only found it on the '83.
I found a 1983 quarter also that looks like a giant N so I came online to find out if it was worth more then a quarter but these commets don't have my hopes up lol. but I'm going to hold onto it just incase. todays date and time 5/28/18 3:43pm san diego ca
I also have a quarter where the I is missing ...its not worn down and not fused with the n you can see it was never there its 1983p
Worn Die Strike.. The Die that struck the blank quarter planchet probably had some grease debris in the incused letter I and did not form well when the blank was struck. Really nothing major.
What determines what error is a error what I'm saying is if the I is missing it's an error if it's double stamped it's an error as is if it's a crack who determines which error are valuble
But if it's wear how come it's only in that spot no signs of wear in other areas pertruding from coin wouldn't it wear in multiple places
as mentioned earlier up, maybe a little grease on the dies dulled the sharp details then the normal wear and tear of normal circulation finished it. You might be seeing too much in this quarter.
Yes, but look at it this way: If it were a genuine error, the odds of finding two together would be astronomical. Much more likely the "worn" opinions are the best...but for 25c or 50c, throw 'em in a novelty jar with some others for later!
