While CRH I discovered a number of 1982 coins weighing 3.0 grams.
I have read that the 1982 was suppose to be 2.5 grams. Any value to the 3.0 and where can I read about this penny.
Thanks for your help and advise.

1982 was a transitional year for Lincoln cents from bronze to copper plated zinc. The bronze cents weigh about 3.11 grams and the copper plated zinc cents weigh about 2.50 grams. Both kinds are common.

Before we get excited new members, let us remember that the weight isn't just static. The mint recognizes this as they do not want to adjust every coin ~impossible. So they have a range limit where they are NORMAL value.

There are 2 average weight , for the copper cents it is 3.11grams +/- 0.13gram, so a copper cent can be from 2.98G -3.24G and be normal.

For the plated zinc cent it is 2.50G +/- .10G so any zinc cent is 2.40-2.60G

Your scale/balance ( what ever you have) should read at least 2 decimal places after the zero. a 3 decimal place is more accurate.
    IMO, Jim

p.s. Be sure if you want accuracy to use a precision weight to use as a accuracy test.
