Het all I also found a 1982 penny( year I was born ) with no mint mark, small Date and makes a thud when you drop it. What do you all think?
I believe the one with the premium would be an 1982 Denver minted small date copper cent. Denver was the only one that didn't record that they had a copper version. But low and behold someone finds 1982 D small date copper. Grab yourself a nice gram scale. I have done the sound test and it doesn't work as well. Copper weighs in at 3.1 grams (around) zinc weighs around 2.5 grams. But ya. If you have the 1982/83 copper cent, I would highly advise not doing the drop test haha.
Thanks. Yikes I already did the test because I have a 1982 D Big date penny and it made a ringing sound and feels heavier and it's more copper shimmering looking and this one made the click thud sound and feels lighter for zinc and is duller. Maybe not such a smart idea but thanks for replying
Gram scales are cheap and you may run into many other things that you will want it for like off metal type coins. Just saying make sure it's small date and has a D mint mark. Hope you find it. Here's a list I found on a website that helped me understand it better. This is the list of things that are supposed to be out.
Thank you so much I've had a few I've wanted to post so it's nice to finally get answers. I'm fixing to post amother one so if you have any advice I'd love to hear it. Thanks again for the useful info I will buy a scale.
The 1982 small date zinc is a good one. That is the one I am missing. (Not including the super rare 1982-D copper small date) If yours weighs 2.5 grams it is zinc and a keeper.
I am sure they can. I bought a digital scale on Amazon, it was less than $10 and it has been great. I have used it to weigh coins, silver etc. Even if your coin is copper, (3.1 g) the small date Philly is still desirable. It's just the zinc one is a little more so.
I don't think the value is that high. In MS more like 80 cents for the zinc and 50 cents for the copper. More 1982 cents were minted than any coin any denomination in history. Around 17 billion.
Hello I have two no mint mark and two d mint mark that each one weights 3.0 grams? Is this something I should get checked out? If so where do you think I should do. I just recently began looking at coins and when I found these I decided to weigh and this is what it weighed. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. Thank You and a great day Odie
1982 cents were made in both copper and copper plated zinc so nothing unusual about having both weights.
I just started collecting pennies. Not even a week ago . and I found 1982 penny small date zinc 2.5.. and 82 d 3.1 but don't know if it's small date or large still trying to figure it out
Hi, My pinhead a bowl full of pennies, and something told me to do some research then given them a look. This is one that I came across it's the 1982 with the D and copper. It looks to be in good condition to me, and according to a youtuber the last one sold at auction went for $18,800.00....... so, what are your thoughts is this really legit?!?!?!??! https://photos.app.goo.gl/sSmkYWvvdz3qpzjRA I also think I might have the 1992 with the old reverse if I remember my research correctly...
